Hi, Im Jeff Patterson with home RepairTutor, and in todays video, Im going to show you the best way to replace an ancient thermostat. Possibly youve received one thats historic andjust desires to be replaced or youve got a newer one who went kaput, just like the oneIve acquired here its a digital thermostat, and it not works after 10 years, whichis a bummer. But the excellent news is its tremendous convenient toreplace an historic thermostat thats not working anymore. So lets get to it. Of course, earlier than you do some thing, turn thepower off to your heating and cooling process.Heres my ancient thermostat; it became offcause it was rough-wired. And Im going to wire up a brand new Honeywellthermostat. Its RTHL2310, and its real simple. All you need to do is tilt the historic thermostatforward and pull it off the bottom plate. Almost always, theres a pin connector thatholds the thermostat to the bottom plate together with 4 clips. When you have an old thermostat with mercury, get rid of it thoroughly.Take a photograph of your current wiring. Thats going to support you wire the new thermostat. But also, bear in mind of how the wires are wired. And youll want to label them with the appropriatelabels. As you will see right here, I labeled the golf green wirewith the G decal. And the leisure of the wires I labeled accordingto the ancient configurations. So thats why the blue wire has a W2 stickeron it. Put off the screws that keep the bottom plateto the wall, and then cautiously after I say carefully, I mean very cautiously holdthe wires with one hand and pull the base plate off the wall. You dont want the wires to go back behindthe wall; its an actual ache, and thats why I put a vice grip set of pliers on thewires to hold them in situation. Drill holes within the wall that healthy the baseplate, and put some blue tape on the wall to capture any of the dirt. Location the blue inserts into the wall. Pound them into situation with a hammer or thebase of your screwdriver, like me. Cautiously feed the bottom plate over the wires. And you may also need to trim any of the wirescoming out of the wall thats what I needed to do right here. After which unscrew the small terminal screwusing a precision screwdriver. Stick the wires into their corresponding slots, after which tighten down the terminal.Cast off the vice grip, and right here you go. Heres the wiring. I put the blue with the blue, G with the G,yellow with the yellow, W with the white, and R with pink. Secure the bottom plate to the wall. Eliminate your blue tape with all of the dust onit I simply easily did that over the thermostat box that got here with the Honeywell thermostat. Put the batteries in. Do away with the sticky label. After which ensure that this change is setto either gasoline OR OIL or electrical.I have an electrical furnace. Press the thermostat down onto the tabs. And youre nearly done. You have to set the time for all programmablethermostats. Set the time. Hit the run button, and youre excellent to move. Now, the last thing you ought to do is setup the warmness, Off, or Cool, after which set the Fan to both Auto or On. Good, there you go. Thats how you exchange an historic thermostatthats not working anymore.
